Subsequent applications
BWC tracks all subsequent application requests. And just like the First Report of Injury, you can check the status of that request here. The application status categories are listed below.

  • New application - BWC has received the application but has not reviewed it.
  • Application pending - BWC is reviewing the application before making a decision.
  • Allowed/appeal - BWC has issued an order granting the subsequent request; however, the decision is within the appeal period. Any party to the claim can file an appeal during the appeal period.
  • Allowed - BWC or the Ohio Industrial Commission (IC) granted the subsequent request and no one appealed the decision within the appeal period.
  • Disallowed/appeal - BWC has issued an order denying the subsequent request; however, the decision is within the appeal period. Any party to the claim can file an appeal during the appeal period.
  • Disallowed - BWC has issued an order denying the subsequent request or the request was denied via hearing, and no one appealed the decision within the appeal period.
  • Dismissed - Status only applies to settlement applications. BWC uses this when the parties cannot reach agreement on a settlement.
  • Hearing - One of the parties to the claim has filed an appeal to the subsequent allowance or denial and BWC has sent the claim to the IC for a formal hearing.
  • Medical pending - Status only applies to Application for Determination of Percentage of Permanent Partial Disability or Increase of Permanent Partial Disability (C-92). This applies when BWC has scheduled an examination for an injured worker and is waiting for the exam report.
  • Withdrawn - Party who filed subsequent request has withdrawn it.
  • Complete - Status only applies to Notice of Appeal (IC-12). BWC puts the claim in this status after we send it to the IC for hearing.
